Little Known Facts About John McCain
John McCain's capture and imprisonment, during the
Vietnam War, began on October 26, 1967. He was flying his twenty-third
bombing mission over North Vietnam, when his A-4E Skyhawk was shot down
by a missile over Hanoi. McCain fractured both arms and a leg, and then
nearly drowned, when he parachuted into Trúc Bạch Lake in Hanoi. After
he regained consciousness, a crowd attacked him, crushed his shoulder
with a rifle butt, and bayoneted him; he was then transported to Hanoi's
main Hoa Lo Prison, nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton."
Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his
injuries, instead beating and interrogating him to get information. Only
when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral
did they give him medical care and announce his capture. His
status as a prisoner of war (POW) made the front pages of The New York
Times and The Washington Post.
McCain spent six weeks in the hospital while receiving marginal care.
Now having lost 50 pounds, in a chest cast, and with his hair turned
white, McCain was sent to a different camp on the outskirts of Hanoi in
December 1967, into a cell with two other Americans who did not expect
him to live a week. In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary
confinement, where he would remain for two years.
In mid-1968, McCain's father was named commander of all U.S. forces in
the Vietnam theater, and McCain was offered early release. The North
Vietnamese wanted to appear merciful for propaganda purposes, and also
wanted to show other POWs that elites like McCain were willing to be
treated preferentially. McCain turned down the offer of repatriation; he
would only accept the offer if every man taken in before him was
released as well.
Altogether, McCain was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for five and a half years. He was finally released from captivity on March 14, 1973.
LIttle Known Facts About Barack Obama
Obama served on the Wood's Fund board alongside William C.
Ayers, a member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to
overthrow of the U.S. government and took responsibility for bombing the
U.S. Capitol in 1971.
Ayers, who still serves on the Woods Fund board, contributed $200 to
Obama's senatorial campaign fund and has served on panels with Obama at
numerous public speaking engagements. Ayers admitted to involvement in
the bombings of U.S. governmental buildings in the 1970s. He is a
professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Obama served
on the board with Ayers, who was a Weathermen leader and has written
about his involvement with the group's bombings of the New York City
Police headquarters in 1970, the Capitol in 1971 and the Pentagon in
1972.
"I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough," Ayers told
the New York Times in an interview released on Sept. 11, 2001
"Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon,"
Ayers wrote in his memoirs, titled "Fugitive Days." He continued with a
disclaimer that he didn't personally set the bombs, but his group set
the explosives and planned the attack.
A $200 campaign contribution is listed on April 2, 2001 by the "Friends
of Barack Obama" campaign fund. The two taught and appeared
speaking together at several public events, including a 1997 University
of Chicago panel entitled, "Should a child ever be called a 'super
predator?'" and another panel for the University of Illinois in April
2002, entitled, "Intellectuals: Who Needs Them?"

Obama as a State Senator - Missed Votes (click on picture)
But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations - Barack Obama

Senator Obama and His Minister
Senator Obama Is Too Inexperienced to be President
Saturday, April 12, 2008
Liberals often view look down their nose at that vast portion of the United States between New York and California, and Obama is no different. However, they usually do a better job at concealing their disdain for average Americans, which is why Obamas remarks in San Francisco are all the more unbelievable.
Why is Barack Obama so comfortable around people who so despise America and its allies?
"As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He contains within him the contradictions -- the good and the bad -- of the community that he has served diligently for so many years. I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community." Senator Barak Obama
Without any new disclosures since that statement was made, Barack Obama has now disowned his minister. The reasons he cited i.e. his support of Reverend Louis Farakahn, his outrageous statements that the U.S. Government unleashed the AIDS virus on blacks, that the U.S. deserved 9/11 as retribution, etc. None of that WAS NEW. These statements were known from before when OBAMA made his famous Philadelphia race speech. The problem was that Reverend Wright decided in 3 days this past weekend, to repeat the same charges on 4 occasions and Obama's poll's were plummeting. One truth Reverend Wright spoke is that OBAMA is political posturing to protect himself.
The candidate idolized by many as one whose multiethnic roots would allow him to lead the nation to racial reconciliation, now finds himself dragged off the pedestal by his close, 20-year association with a pastor whose anti-American and racially tinged accusations have shocked the nation.
The Illinois Democrat waited too long to repudiate his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., but in the end did what he had to do to keep his campaign on track.
Obama appeared upset Tuesday when he said, "I was outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday," referring to Wright's boastful, strutting appearance before the National Press Club on Monday.
Wright's comments at the Washington, D.C., event removed any doubt about whether the retired pastor's anti-American statements have been taken out of context, as some claim.
While Wright's sermons and comments aren't always controversial, there's no ambiguity about his views on the United States, although the minister argues weakly that his harsh opinion applies to the government, not to the American people. He conveniently glosses over the fact that it is the American people who elect that government.
The U.S. is an imperialist nation guilty of genocide, Wright has said, and the 9/11 attacks were retribution for U.S. "terrorism" against other nations.
He has asserted that the U.S. created the AIDS virus to kill racial minorities. Wright also has endorsed Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, who is an anti-Semite.
Obama, who was aware of Wright's extremist views for years, apparently wasn't outraged and saddened by them until they began to threaten his run for the nomination.
Last month, when Wright's inflammatory sermons first gained national attention, Obama delivered a widely praised speech in Philadelphia in which he eschewed Wright's extremist pronouncements but refused to disown him.
Perhaps he thought Wright would take the cue and fade into the background. Instead, Wright seized the stage, doused it in gasoline and set it afire.
Now, Obama wants the world to believe that he is disowning the man who officiated at his wedding, baptized his daughters and inspired the title of one of Obama's books.
The question is whether the electorate will allow Obama to erase so easily his two-decade connection to Wright and Wright's radical views.
